Convert OBJ to GLB

Pack an OBJ mesh into a single GLB for the web or AR. The triangles and object groups survive; MTL materials and external textures stay behind.

What changes in the conversion

Kept

  • Triangle geometry
  • Object groups as separate nodes
  • A self-contained .glb

Dropped

  • MTL materials and external textures
  • OBJ comments and smoothing groups
  • Any unit information

Common mistakes

  • An OBJ that references an MTL file cannot load its materials here; the mesh is still converted.
  • OBJ n-gons are triangulated on export.
  • Files above 100 MB are refused.

For 3D printing

  • GLB is for viewing, not printing; convert to STL or 3MF for the slicer.
  • If you need colours, author PBR materials in a 3D tool before export.

Frequently asked questions

Does OBJ to GLB keep materials?+

No. The OBJ loader reads geometry only; MTL and textures are not loaded, so the GLB uses a default material.

Why is my model dark?+

Without materials the GLB gets a neutral PBR material; add one in Blender or start from a GLB that already has materials.

Is GLB smaller than OBJ?+

Usually yes: binary buffers replace text, even before Draco or Meshopt compression.

Need a model instead of a conversion?

Turn a photo, a drawing or a logo into a 3D model, then export it in the format you need.
