Convert OBJ to 3MF

Pack an OBJ mesh into a 3MF that modern slicers read natively. Object groups become separate objects, the unit is declared in millimetres, and materials stay behind.

What changes in the conversion

Kept

  • Triangles and object groups
  • Shape and dimensions
  • A 3MF package with millimetres

Dropped

  • MTL materials and textures (not loaded)
  • OBJ comments and smoothing groups
  • Unit metadata: OBJ has none

Common mistakes

  • OBJ has no unit: the 3MF declares millimetres, so check the scale before printing.
  • OBJ n-gons are triangulated on export.
  • Files above 100 MB are refused.

For 3D printing

  • 3MF declares units and objects, which Bambu Studio and PrusaSlicer use.
  • Check the scale: an OBJ authored in metres becomes a metre-sized millimetre model.

Frequently asked questions

Does OBJ to 3MF keep materials?+

No. The OBJ loader reads geometry only; MTL and textures are not loaded.

Is 3MF better than OBJ for printing?+

Yes: slicers read 3MF directly, with units and objects. OBJ is an editing format.

Why is my model the wrong size?+

OBJ has no unit and 3MF declares millimetres; scale the model in your slicer if it was authored in metres.

Need a model instead of a conversion?

Turn a photo, a drawing or a logo into a 3D model, then export it in the format you need.
