Convert 3MF to OBJ

Turn a 3MF plate into OBJ meshes for editing or rendering. Objects become groups, millimetre coordinates stay as authored, and materials are not written to MTL.

What changes in the conversion

Kept

  • Triangles of every object
  • One group per object
  • Millimetre coordinates

Dropped

  • 3MF materials as MTL: no material file is written
  • Build plate and print settings
  • Package metadata

Common mistakes

  • A 3MF with only metadata and no mesh cannot be converted.
  • Protected or encrypted 3MF files are rejected.
  • A large multi-object plate can exceed 100 MB; split it in your slicer first.

For 3D printing

  • OBJ is not a print format; use STL or 3MF for the slicer.
  • Groups let you isolate parts before exporting a print mesh.

Frequently asked questions

Does 3MF to OBJ keep the colours?+

No material file is written, so colours are not usable downstream. Convert to GLB instead if you need per-object colours.

Can I edit the result in Blender?+

Yes, OBJ is a standard import format; each 3MF object arrives as a separate group.

Are the units preserved?+

The millimetre numbers are kept as authored, but OBJ has no unit metadata; check the scale in your tool.
