Convert 3MF to STL

Turn a 3MF package into an STL mesh. 3MF stores units and materials; STL only keeps triangles, so colours and part names disappear while the geometry stays.

What changes in the conversion

Kept

  • The triangles of every object in the package
  • Millimetre dimensions (3MF declares its unit)
  • Object transforms baked into the vertices

Dropped

  • Colours, materials and textures
  • Object and part names
  • The ZIP package and its metadata

Common mistakes

  • A 3MF that only contains a build plate or metadata has no mesh to convert.
  • Protected or encrypted 3MF files are rejected by the parser.
  • A large multi-object plate can exceed 100 MB; split it in your slicer first.

For 3D printing

  • STL keeps the millimetre values but not the unit: most slicers assume mm, which matches 3MF.
  • Colours are lost. Keep the 3MF if your printer supports multi-material printing.

Frequently asked questions

Does 3MF to STL keep the colours?+

No. STL has no material support; the triangles are kept and every colour or material is dropped.

Is the scale preserved?+

Yes. 3MF declares millimetres and the numbers are kept as-is; check the scale in your slicer if the file came from another unit.

Can I convert a multi-object 3MF?+

Yes. All meshes are merged into one STL, which is what most slicers expect for a single print.
