Why extrusion is the right method for a flat logo

A logo already describes its important geometry through outlines and negative space. For a badge, plaque, sign or insert, a controlled extrusion is more predictable than asking a model to infer an unseen back and sides.

Reforgers performs this workflow locally in the browser. The source image stays on the device while the mask and Three.js mesh update as the controls move.

Example: turn a two-letter mark into a 50 mm STL

Open the free logo-to-STL tool and load the sample mark or your own PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG. In our example, the source is a simple dark mark on white. The default 50 mm width and 3 mm extrusion produce a compact badge-sized part.

  • Move the background threshold until both letters are solid and the white field disappears.
  • Invert the mask if the background becomes solid instead of the artwork.
  • Use silhouette cleanup sparingly: too much can close intentional counters inside letters.

Make disconnected artwork printable

Separate letters and symbols become separate solids. That is fine for individual inserts, but a one-piece badge needs a backing plate. Increase the backing setting until every island meets the shared base.

Edge rounding softens the top rim and can make a small badge feel more finished. Keep it below the extrusion depth so the relief remains clearly defined.

Choose detail based on the final size

More contour samples do not automatically create a better print. At 50 mm wide, details narrower than a nozzle line may disappear even if the STL contains them. Use the preview to simplify noisy pixels, then let the slicer show what the printer can actually resolve.

Transparent PNGs and clean vector exports usually need less threshold adjustment than compressed screenshots. If lettering is very small, remove the tagline or enlarge the final part.

Can I convert a transparent PNG logo to STL?+

Yes. Transparent PNG artwork is often an excellent source because the subject is already separated from the background.

Why are parts of my logo floating?+

The artwork contains disconnected shapes. Add a backing plate to join them, or print the elements as separate inserts.

Does downloading use credits?+
